Description

[EN] Melanesian island culture is associated with the cult of ancestors, the ritual celebration of natural forces, and the existence of great mythical cycles according to which "cultural heroes" shaped the world during the Great Time of the origins. A Great Space was created concurrently, which holds magical and other powers. The living communicate with it by means of the path of the dead, Melanesian space is produced by "geosymbols", in other words, by cultural places that link identity, meaning, and memory, A number of concepts such as territorial rights, the frontier, and journeying can be explained by this connection with the sacred as it incarnates in a cultural space.
