Description

The Lapita cultural complex of island Melanesia and western Polynesia saw the initial human colonization of many Oceanic islands in the centuries around 1000 bce. Lapita laid the ancestral foundations for many subsequent Austronesian-speaking peoples of Oceania, including Eastern Polynesians and many Micronesians.
