Description

Tourism Development makes a detailed  study  of the tourism phenomenon  in  its numerous aspects.  It explores various con cepts in  tourism,  what makes it possible and  how tourism is an important factor in the prosperity of a nation. Since tourism is a highly  complex  phenomenon,  various disciplines are involved  in its study. Some basic disciplines such as Economies, Psychology, Sociology  and  Geography  contribute a great deal to  it.  Newer disciplines of Management and  Marketing  hâve been  introduced in tourism development and play a significant rôle in it. In addi tion,  techniques of Planning,  Statistics and  Market Research are also involved and are used extensively by tourism enterprises. Divided  into  thirteen  chapters,  the book  covers systematically various areas related  to  the subject,  especially  tourism develop ment and  promotion,  from the earliest times to  the modem day. Also included are chapters on international tourism organisations, accommodation  and  travel agencies.  Development of tourism in India is separately dealt with in one exhaustive chapter. The book has been prepared with a view to explaining the tourism phenomenon in its totality and to some extent satisfies a long felt need for such a work. The material in the book should provide valuable information to national tourism organisations, travel agencies hôtel   establishments, transport and carrier firms and others engaged in the business of tourism. The book  will be of particular interest to  students pursuing  under- graduate as well as post-graduate college and  university  level courses in tourism.
