Description
Mwotlap is an Austronesian language of the Oceanic branch, spoken by about 1800 speakers on Motalava, a small island of the Banks group, north of Vanuatu (François 2001, 2003). Contrary to many languages from the same area-e.g. Paama (Crowley 1987), Ambae (Hyslop 2001), Araki (François 2002)-, Mwotlap has almost no traces of serialisation between verb phrases (of the type I'll PUSH you you'll FALL).Th e only productive case of verb serialisation is of a different pattern, with two or more verbs chained together within a single verb phrase (of the type I'll PUSH FALL you)...
