Description
[EN] We provide examples of the incorporation of Indigenous knowledge and practices into teacher education and school curricula, with examples from New Caledonia-Kanaky and Vanuatu in the South Pacific region. The integration of such practices, for example sand drawings from different islands in Vanuatu, is increasingly mandated, or adapted to more explicit learning environments. This involves cross-cultural tools and techniques, but also implicit emancipatory knowledge learned throughout life, leading to more holistic approaches to education. However, reference to Indigenous worldviews should not only deal with “what can be incorporated”, but also how these worldviews can be more than an “add-on” and how they can contribute to improved relations with the environment in an embodied and spiritual way.
